Breaking News: Dump Trucks Get Their Wings! New Customs Facility Lands at Fulton County Executive Airport, Bringing a Payload of Work

July 15, 2025

Atlanta, Georgia, is buzzing with news of a significant new development at the Fulton County Executive Airport (FTY): a new US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) facility is on its way. This approximately $4.66 million project involves demolition, extensive site preparation, and new construction, promising a substantial amount of work for local dump truck operators and other heavy equipment specialists. Kicking off on August 12, 2025, and aiming for completion by June 8, 2026, this initiative ensures a steady stream of hauling and earthmoving tasks for nearly a year.

The new 5,000-square-foot facility, located on Sandy Creek Road within the airport, is a crucial part of FTY’s broader expansion and modernization efforts. Designed strictly according to the US CBP General Aviation Facility (GAF) 2018 Design Manual, it will feature essential pre-processing, processing, and post-processing spaces, alongside offices for CBP staff, an agricultural laboratory, and holding areas. This state-of-the-art center is equipped to handle up to four aircraft simultaneously and accommodate around 20 occupants, granting international private jets immediate taxiway access upon arrival. A significant portion of the funding, over $3.48 million, comes from an FAA grant.

Taking the lead on this project as the apparent low general contractor is Ward-Humphrey. Headquartered in Marietta, Georgia, Ward-Humphrey is a full-service General Contractor founded by Stanton Ward, Mike Humphrey, Carrie Myers, and David Neff. Their team boasts over 75 years of combined experience, with a focus on government contracts and a track record of successfully delivering various construction projects, including site work, ground-up builds, and renovations. They prioritize speed, quality, and clear communication, making them a key player in Georgia’s construction landscape. Fulton County is overseeing the project as the owner.

Fulton County Executive Airport (FTY) itself is a vital component of Atlanta’s aviation infrastructure, serving as a significant general aviation hub and a reliever for the busier Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Its strategic position supports regional business and corporate travel, acting as a crucial economic engine for the county. This new CBP facility will enhance FTY’s international processing capabilities, streamlining global travel for businesses and individuals and further stimulating economic growth in the area.

For dump truck operators, the detailed scope of work promises consistent activity. The initial “Demolition” phase demands trucks to clear debris. Following this, extensive “Site Work” will require continuous hauling of excavated soil, delivery of fill dirt, and transport of aggregates for foundational layers. Additionally, “Exterior Improvements” and “Utilities” work, involving digging and trenching, will also rely heavily on dump trucks for spoils removal and material delivery. This new customs facility at FTY is a strong indicator of sustained opportunities for dump truck operators across the Atlanta metropolitan area, contributing significantly to Fulton County’s ongoing development.
